Fred Phelps, Closeted Fag?

The Supreme Court has decided to review the case against "Pastor" Fred Phelps, the lunatic preacher responsible for the ugly, hateful, and completely un-Christlike protests at military funerals.  The $5 million verdict was overturned by an appeals court.

I must admit to being torn on this one.  As you can see from the picture above, these people are full of hate and anger and their signs and chants are offensive on every level except that of the lunatic right wing Xtian fringe.  Even so, these worthless pieces of shit are entitled to free speech of some kind.  But should that free speech include disrupting a private service?  Should someone be allowed to cause severe emotional damage to grieving relatives?  Difficult questions, obviously, or this wouldn't have made it to the Supreme Court.

One thing I am not torn about is that Fred Phelps is a horrible man who deserves a long and painful death.  He and the people that support him are a waste of carbon.  When they die no one will protest because the people they have actually harmed (as opposed to the invented harm of homosexuality against them) are better people than they.  And as is always true with these people, Fred Phelps is obviously a closeted fag (see picture below).  Self hate is the ugliest type of hate, especially when it is aimed at the rest of the world.

"God doesn't hate them because they're fags; they're fags because God hates them."

Does This "Family Values" Republican Look Gay To You?

Ah, Hypocrisy.  Where Would the GOP be Without You? cont'd

It just doesn't get much better than this.  Gay bashing, homo hating California State Senator (R, of course) Roy Ashburn was arrested yesterday morning for drunk driving.  He had an unidentified male passenger in the car.  His blood alcohol level was 0.14 (0.08 is the legal limit).  Where had he been all night?  Turns out he had been partying hard in a gay bar.

[...] West Sacto's openly gay mayor, Christopher Cabaldon, called him a hypocrite, claiming he has spotted Ashburn at gay clubs, including Badlands. Cabaldon blasted Ashburn in a message he posted to Facebook a few months ago: "It wouldn't bother me so bad to see Roy Ashburn at Badlands with a boy if he didn't have such a bad voting record on gay rights."

As Cabaldon suggests, Ashburn['s] voting record on gay issues is less than stellar. The Bakersfield Californian reports he voted no an anti-discrimination bill, legislation on out-of-state same sex marriages, Harvey Milk Day, and a resolution declaring the Senate's opposition to Proposition 8. The Bakersfield Californian has more about his voting recordmore

Death Parties III - Rest in Hell Oral Roberts

Drink up!

Glory be to the gods, the evil spreader of hate, dissension, and stupidity in the name of Jesus, Oral Roberts is dead. If there is a hell there's a special pit of molten lead waiting for his eternal soul.
Unfortunately his influence will continue to corrupt and destroy this world we live in. Fuck you Oral Roberts, you should have died fifty years ago.

This is the beginning of a list those who have died and whose death is reason to at the very least drink a toast to their absence. I'm keeping this list to people who would be less than a hundred if they hadn't died:

April 15 - Pol Pot
April 22 - Richard Nixon
June 5 - Ronald Reagan
September 13 - George Wallace
September 17 - Spiro Agnew
Novemeber 9 - John Mitchell
December 15 - Oral Roberts

This is the updated list of people whose death will be a reason for celebration (new additions are in bold). Each of these people has made the world a worse place and their departure from it cannot come soon enough as they will continue to do damage through existing:

John Ashcroft
Robert Bork
Pat Buchanan

George H.W. Bush
George W. Bush
Dick Cheney
Ann Coulter
Newt Gingrich
Alberto Gonzales
Billy Graham
